CRAZY HEART
Four-time Academy Award® nominee Jeff Bridges stars as the richly comic, semi-tragic romantic anti-hero Bad Blake in the debut feature film CRAZY HEART from writer-director Scott Cooper.
Bad Blake is a broken-down, hard-living country music singer who’s had way too many marriages, far too many years on the road and one too many drinks way too many times. And yes, Bad can’t help but reach for salvation with the help of Jean (Golden Globe nominee Maggie Gyllenhall), a journalist who discovers the real man behind the musician. As he struggles down the road of redemption, Bad learns the hard way just how tough life can be on one man’s crazy heart.
CRAZY HEART, a Fox Searchlight Release, opens commercially in San Diego on January 8th.
PLEASE NOTE: THIS EVENT TAKES PLACE ON A WEDNESDAY!
Rated R for language and brief sexuality.
Running Time: 111 Minutes

No one could have played Bad Blake but Jeff Bridges. The film was a fine tribute to all things country western men, who lived hard and were still trying to survive after the shine had worn off. Maggie Gyllenhaal was great and I really liked that their relationship ended when/where it did. A honest and sound homage to this "life".

Ah yes--redemption---always a winning theme. Seeing Bad Blake find his bottom and ask for help was so true to life. And the man never lost his skill to play and thrill his fans. Jeff Bridges may finally win the Oscar this time around. Can't wait to get the sound track myself--just like our fearless leader Andy suggested.

What a pleasure it was to watch this finely crafted movie, which I think is one of the two or three best we've seen this season. The acting is uniformly outstanding, though Jeff Bridges is the obvious standout, turning in his finest performance since the Fabulous Baker Boys. He has some tics as an actor that I sometimes find annoying, but I saw no evidence of them in Bad Blake. This is a thoughtful, absorbing movie, genuine in every detail and reflecting the sensibility of a truly talented filmmaker. I can't wait to see what Scott Cooper does next. Having him with us for the screening was icing on the cake.

This was an enjoyable movie, however, we have seen this basic setting before. It lacked the freshness of a more original plot such as: Waking Ed Devine or Juno or several others. So, for me that lack reduces the impact of the movie.
The acting of Robert Duvall was not his best by a long shot, he was just Robert. The other actors did a great job.
It was certainly super to have Scott Cooper answering questions for us.

Jeff Bridges and the music are the stars. Colin Farrell was also great and a good choice for the roll. Totally different from his Bruges character. Who knew he could sing! Thanks for this one Andy. Meeting Scott Cooper was the icing on the cake....he seems truly overwhelmed by the buzz the film is getting. What a great directing debut.

Loved it...great music, great story, great acting all around. Heartfelt but not cloying, an original take on an old story, this is the genuine article. Wonderful, new, and very American, roots/country-rock/blues music. For music lovers especially, but for everyone, take a look at this:

No disappointments. Jeff Bridges was as terrific as "they've" said...the music wonderful and the homage to Robert Duvall in Tender Mercies sweet. Maggie Gyllenhall was very believable. As Scott Marks said, however, this was 28 Days meets Tender Mercies. I liked both those movies too.
