FALLING FOR GRACE

A cross between Mike Nichol’s WORKING GIRL and Ang Lee’s THE WEDDING BANQUET, FALLING FOR GRACE is the story of Grace Tang, an ambitious Wall Street banker determined to work her way up the ladder of life and out of working-class Chinatown.

When a case of mistaken identity brings Grace together with New York’s most eligible bachelor, she is unwittingly swept up in a whirlwind of romance and white lies. Now, to untangle herself, she’ll have to carefully negotiate her personal ties to Chinatown and the politics of Wall Street and high society.

Representing a major cinematic achievement for first time Writer/Director/Actress/Producer Fay Ann Lee, FALLING FOR GRACE co- stars Gale Harold, Roger Rees, Lewis Black and Christine Baranski.

I agree with KWI - this has been done before and more successfully. The pedestrian script was unoriginal. I have nothing against romantic comedies or chic flicks in general, but I do prefer that they both be good.

I thought Falling for Grace was a rerun. It was formulaic and far too predictable. While a sweet story, it has been done, over and over and over. While we do need more silly romantic comedies to distract us in these trying times, can't anyone come up with a more original story-line then another one about a girl from the poor side of town ashamed of her roots falling for the rich-kid-turned-philanthropist who rejects the family money and status to be a do-gooder?

I liked "Falling For Grace". A lot. Fay Ann Lee is quite a talent. I thought the writing, directing, and lead performance were all excellent. I thought Gale Harold did well opposite Ms. Lee; their chemistry sold the story. The rest of the cast also did well, and I thought Ms. Lee did well not only to make a crowd-pleasing romantic comedy, but also to squeeze in so many interesting sub-stories, without its feeling crowded.

It was mildly entertaining, like a made for TV movie... Lifetime presents "The Chinese-American Cinderella", it's still all about getting the rich, white, prince. The ladies must like Gale Harold (the law-yer) for him to make it to a role on Desperate Housewives. The actor that played Ming plays a great part on Lost. Maybe I was just a little upset by seeing so many Wall Street brokers, oops sorry politics. There were just a bit too many racial stereotypes. Sure hope she got big money from those sponsers, Coke and Dunkin Donuts to name a couple. Cute reference to Momma Mia, wonder if Christine Baranski knew she'd be in that hit when this one was made.

All in all, pretty good job Ms. Lee!
