CIRQUE DU DOLEIL: WORLDS AWAY

From the big top to the big screen, Academy Award® nominated director Andrew Adamson and visionary filmmaker James Cameron invite audiences on an all-new 3D adventure—CIRQUE DU SOLEIL: WORLDS AWAY.

Two young people journey through the astonishing and dreamlike worlds of Cirque de Soleil to find each other as audiences experience the immersive 3D technology that allows them to leap, soar, swim and dance with the performers.

Unique in scope, this immersive experience melds acts from seven live Cirque du Soleil shows in Las Vegas—“O”, “KA”, MYSTERE, VIVA ELVIS, CRISS ANGEL BELIEVE, ZUMANITY and THE BEATLES LOVE—into a circus love story produced, written and directed by Academy Award® nominee Andrew Adamson (SHREK, THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE). The film stars Cirque du Soleil strap aerialists Igor Zaripov (The Aerialist) and former artist Erica Kathleen Linz (Mia) as the young couple.

Running Time: 91 Minutes Not Rated.

PLEASE NOTE: CIRQUE DU SOLEIL: WORLDS AWAY will be presented in 3D

ALSO PLEASE NOTE: 30 minutes prior to each “on screen” time, the Cinema Society presents its Holiday Movie Trailer show, allowing members to “one stop shop” the holiday movie season.

I auditioned to be a mucsiian for Cirque du Soleil (no joke, I did it just a few months ago it was definitely not your typical audition, it was really fun). If you want to be a part of the band, then you need to be amazing at improvising all types of music from latin jazz to classical to pretty much anything. Make sure you have a good ear and can just improvise over any background music. To be honest you need to keep an open mind to be a mucsiian (you can't just focus on Cirque, b/c even if you sound great, you need the personality they are looking for, and it is VERY competitive and of coarse very limited openings, depending on your instrument..also a lot of their mucsiians are scouted, rather then having won an audition). I think it'll be better to try to get gigs around town to get used to improvising and playing with random groups of instruments and mucsiians (and perform while standing up). (It'll also be good practice to play with headphones and microphones- since that is what they deal with)Florida State University is the only school that pops into my head when I think about Southeastern USA music schools. (they are mostly in the north east, and some in CA or TX.)

Really bad; I would have rather watched a film opera or ballet on film. I wouldn't recommend this film to either lovers of Cirque Du Soleil or 3 D! The live performances are a treat to see, but this movie was really a disappointment. I don't think I've ever given anything a '1' rating, this is my first!

Very different. I enjoyed it as a departure from a traditional story on film or a documentary. I liked the 3-D presentation. Haven't seen Cirque du Soliel for years. There was some amazing acrobatics. Following the 'story' between Igor and Erica was a bit difficult but she was able to move us from one performance to another.

Definitely for lovers of the Cirque du Soleil performances (but not necessarily for film friends), it is performance art to the max. The film’s perspective allows one to see things in such detail, stuff one would certainly miss if just sitting in the audience. It is way better than a front row seat, you almost feel like you are participating in the cirque. Though the movie made me a little sleepy I think that is due to these shows creating a dreamlike state and convinces the body & mind it is sleeping/dreaming (at least that is the excuse I am using). Even after having seen a couple live performances of these shows I am so taken with the imagination that created these scenarios in the first place and am completely astounded by the person(s) that brings them to life, truly a work of art…for all the senses.

Disappointing. For anyone who has seen a Cirque show, the power of the performance is in the dynamics of the entire stage. The direction, the editing and the camera work failed to capture that dynamic so consequently the impact of Cirque was lost and 3D couldn't save it. In order to feel the energy of Cirque you need to see the entire stage - - there are mini performances everywhere and each enhances the others. And in order to appreciate the dexterity and physicality of these performers, you need to see the entire performer and the apparatus. Don't show me a dancers face! Don't do some crazy camera angle on a performance that diminishes the choreography and incredible timing of the performers. I don't think the film did Cirque justice.

Viewing Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away was a magical experience -- amazing dancer-athletes, haunting music, astonishing photography. And, it was fun to see the film in 3-D.

For me,70 minutes would have been better than 90. This really is not a movie, but rather an artistic documentary.
