THE SESSIONS

Based on the poignantly optimistic autobiographical writings of California-based journalist and poet Mark O’Brien, THE SESSIONS tells the story of a man confined to an iron long who is determined—at age 38—to lose his virginity. With the help of his therapists and the guidance of his priest, he sets out to make his dream a reality.

Starring Academy Award® nominee John Hawkes, Academy Award ® winner Helen Hunt and Academy Award® nominee William H. Macy, THE SESSIONS, based on the triumphant true story, is a Fox Searchlight Pictures Release, and tentatively opens commercially in San Diego on October 19th.

PLEASE NOTE: THE SESSIONS is rated R for strong sexuality including graphic nudity & frank dialogue.

Running Time: 92 Minutes

My kind of movie! Funny, poignant, heartwarming - in a good way! William Macy's facial expressions were worth the cost of admission!

Amazing acting by John Hawkes, everyone else in the film was great but this was Hawkes movie and he was phenomenal…There is always a dark horse on “the list” for nominated Best Actor and I believe Hawkes will by that nominee. The handling of this “delicate” subject matter was done very well and I was never made to feel uncomfortable or embarrassed (though I wouldn’t have wanted to watch it with my parents). This has a “small movie” feel so hopefully it won’t get lost against the “big leagues”.

John Hawkes raised his level in the work of Hollywood actors. This was a far cry from Winter's Bone. His performance was somewhat amazing. The story was engaging throughout. Got to love William H. Macy. Hopefully this "little film" will find an audience. I thank Andy for bringing this to us.

It was everything I heard it would be - moving, inspiring, tender, and funny. Highly enjoyable and thought provoking.

This morning my cat jumped on my bed to say good morning. My first thought was of Mark O'Brien's cat sitting on top of his iron lung after he had "expired". Of course I cried. I frequently do. This particular movie provoked tears because it was so sweetly sensual and endearing with great acting and a quiet respect for one man's all too short journey thru life.
