THE WORDS

Starring Bradley Cooper, Oscar®-winner Jeremy Irons, Dennis Quaid, Olivia Wilde and Zoë Saldana, the layered romantic drama The Words follows young writer Rory Jansen who finally achieves long sought after literary success after publishing the next great American novel. There’s only one catch – he didn’t write it. As the past comes back to haunt him and his literary star continues to rise, Jansen is forced to confront the steep price that must be paid for stealing another man’s work and for placing ambition and success above life’s most fundamental three words. A CBS Films Release, THE WORDS opens commercially in San Diego on September 7th.

Running Time: 96 Minutes Rated PG-13 for brief strong language and smoking

Very intriguing story and told in a creative way in the films unique structure (did not find it hard to follow). This film definitely felt like a “moral tale” (maybe what “we” need more of). I appreciated the nod/reference to Hemingway’s loss due to someone’s brief but significant moment absentmindedness. I could see this movie getting a “best original screenplay” recognition at the Oscars but I don’t believe it will go further than that. I think this film had the potential to be a great film but it was lacking something, it wasn’t as strong and powerful as it should have been. Not sure if that was due to directing, cinematography, maybe even the sound/score…???

It will make for a very decent rental.

One of the best films I've seen in a long time. I loved the story developed within the story. Fantastic acting, especially from Jeremy Irons. Good music and editing. Kept me interested the hole movie.

My words for "The Words": who cares? To me, it was a male fantasy written by an immature person who cast his vote for fiction over reality on many levels.

What do you get when you mix professional actors and an amateurish story idea? Just words.

The movie showed us the line between truth and fiction is often blurred. We need to understand our own limitations Worth watching despite its meanderings. The layering of plots within plots was easy to follow and gave us something to think about on many levels.

Jeremy Irons was the body and soul of this movie. Just as Bradley Cooper's character could not produce words worthy of "the old man," so too young Mr. Cooper could not hold a candle to him in his acting either.

The movie should have been tighter. It dragged a bit. The underlying story was well written. Held my interest. Not sure if I would recommend to family or friends.

Various flaws notwithstanding -- pace, melodrama, plot predictability -- I really liked this movie. Am a sucker for the story within the story stories. What flows from finding a 60 year old unpublished novel in a weathered briefcase from a second hand store -- my kind of premise. Great acting, too.
