THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL follows a group of British retirees who decide to “outsource” their retirements to less expensive and seemingly exotic India. Enticed by advertisements for the newly restored Marigold Hotel and bolstered with visions of a life of leisure, they arrive to find the palace a shell of its former self. Though the new environment is less luxurious than imaged, they are forever transformed by their shared experiences, discovering that life and love can begin again when you let go of the past.

Starring Judi Dentch, Bill Nighy, Dev Patel with Tom Wilkinson and Maggie Smith, THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL, a Fox Searchlight Release, is directed by John Madden (SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE), and opens commercially in San Diego on May 11th.

Running Time: 124 Minutes; Rated PG-13 for sexual content and language

I enjoyed the acting and the colorful setting. Since my husband and I are about to become expats (in Mexico) I was interested in the film's concept as well. However, the predictability of the plot and the dialogue had me fidgeting.

Loved it, loved it, loved it. One of my favorites of the year for sure. I agree that it will be very easy to recommend to friends. The film captured the culture shock of moving to a completely different country beautifully. The characters were interesting and engaging, and I enjoyed their evolution. I look forward to reading the book.

I really enjoyed this movie and I love that I can recommend this to my Mother-In-Law and take my Grandma to see it too. I appreciate the maturity of the film, and not “mature” in the age sense, but rather that the film and the characters developed throughout and every detail did not have to be explained to death. Maybe in less acting hands the film might not have been as highly acclaimed (or will be) so the actors cast in this were most definitely “a get” and made for a delightful experience. I do enjoy our seasonal “Brit Flick” (i.e. Calendar Girls, Millions, Mrs. Henderson Presents, etc.) Cheers!

Penelope Wilton is one of my favorite actresses and she certainly did not disappoint. To see her in the film is reason enough to recommend it... her performance (my opinion) eclipsed all others though Judy D can do more with silence than most can with scripts. I felt that the story line of mom/son/girlfriend/girlfriend-brother was superfluous... I would have liked a bit more Tom Wilkinson ... Enjoyed seeing a lot of my favorite actors in one film.

THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL had some of the same feeling as LOVE ACTUALLY, BOYNTON BEACH CLUB, and the “PRAY” in EAT PRAY LOVE. Since I didn’t particularly like any of those three films, I didn’t particularly like this one. I did love the performances of the all-star cast.

This film is easy to recommend to others. This is a light comedy with some semi-serious treatment of life issues faced by retired people presented in an entertaining way. It's English for sure and I wish I could have caught all the lines but the laughs were worth it even if I missed some. I'll seriously consider seeing it again with some friends. Especially if you saw the film I think you'd enjoy this combination of interviews with the actors at the England premier that is mixed with the trailer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=YCOHe8z1l2o
