PATISSERIE COIN DE RUE

PATISSERIE COIN de RUE, is a story of introspect and soul-searching, both on the parts of the viewer and characters. When Tomura (Yosuki Eguchi) vanishes from the upper echelon of the pastry circuit in Japan, people are befuddled as to where he went, and why. Living a quiet life as a lecturer to confectionary students in Tokyo, Tomura figures that he is home free. That is until he is “discovered” by the young daughter (Yu Aoi) of a cake-baker, who, on a whim, decided to leave her home to follow her boyfriend to the big city. When she becomes an apprentice at a small but well-esteemed bakery, she makes it her duty to try and bring Tomura back into the proverbial pastry ring.

Running Time: 115 Minutes

PLEASE NOTE: PATISSERIE COIN DE RUE is in Japanese with English Subtitles

I, too, liked PATISSERIE for the reasons already given. It was a nice break for the left side of my brain after TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY.

This is the second time I've seen this film and I hope I get to see it again. Beautiful cinematography and music, excellent acting, and a pretty good story. Granted that the scenes were slower than in a high-speed hollywood action film, but this is a film from a different culture. While it seemed like the story was about cooking cakes, it was realy about Nansome helping Tumara heal his grief. I truly enjoyed it.

I could not keep my eyes open! Boring, boring, boring. Pointless and impenetrable. I kept wondering if there were perhaps subtle Japanese nuances that would be more meaningful or understandable if I had more familiarity with the culture. Even allowing for that possibility, I could not find much to enjoy about the movie.

The evening was not a complete loss. I appreciated the visit from Chef Karen, and I love my cookbook. I look forward to enjoying my Extraordinary Dessert!

I liked this movie. I found Natsume to be a bit high pitched ... but that was the point as evidenced by " the sound of your voice gives me a headache". Part of the issue could be the English translation. I thought the shop was beautiful. I loved the contrast of old Japan and new Japan as evidenced in the architecture, cooking methods, dress and hair styles. Lots of predicable threads ...but that's okay. And the food? Gorgeous... thanks, Andy!

This movie was the "Exception to the Rule".

Normally Andy brings us thought provoking movies. This one really deserved a zero rather than a one. It was dull, pointless and tedious.

We like to watch from the center of the aisle. If we had been on the end, we would have been home early.

Sorry, but this movie was painful. The lead girl was so annoying, and she looked like she was about 12 years old.

Now I know it feels to be a prisoner of war being forced to watch a movie with no beginning, middle or end. Where do I go to get my two hours back? With all of the tens of thousands of films to choose from WHY was this one chosen? For this I gave up 49ers v Steelers?

Sorry. Way too slow. And pointless.
