See the first IMAX feature solely about tornadoes: the people they attract, the scientists who study them and the awesome spectacle they create. Follow Sean Casey and his storm chasing crew into gale force winds, torrential rains, and unrelenting hail as they capture data for VORTEX-2, the premiere scientific study to understand tornadoes.

Never before has there been such an ambitious project, bringing together researchers from diverse organizations to undertake one of the most complex and danger-ridden field campaigns of its kind. In addition to collecting the most comprehensive extreme weather data ever recorded, the crew captures dramatic footage of the birth of a tornado, and the emotion and drama that is part of every encounter with severe weather.

TORNADO ALLEY opens at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center on March 18th.

PLEASE NOTE: This event takes place at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center in Balboa Park.

ALSO PLEASE NOTE: This program is one hour long, and includes a formal introduction, screening and brief question-and-answer session. Our show times are 7:00PM and 8:15PM—if your season pass is numbered 001 thru 400, please consider attending the 7:00PM show; if your season pass numbers 401 or greater, please consider attending the 8:15PM show. Whatever time you choose, note that the doors will open for check in 30 minutes prior to each show, and that auditorium doors will open five to ten minutes prior to the program start time (although the store and café will be closed, the exhibit galleries will be open for our enjoyment).

AND FINALLY, NOTE THIS: This event takes place on a Wednesday.

I enjoyed very much the scenes of the tornadoes/storms/wind, etc.. but it seems like that Elvis song "little less conversation, little more action" ... Having Bill Paxton narrate was not a good choice... just because he starred in Twister... Thinking how much better it would have been with Sam Elliot and more of what IMax does best... wrap around sound/images...
