WINSTON CHURCHILL: WALKING WITH DESTINY

WINSTON CHURCHILL: WALKING WITH DESTINY

highlights Churchill's years in the political wilderness, his early opposition to Adolf Hitler and Nazism, and his support for Jews under threat by the Nazi regime. As historian John Lukacs explains, Churchill may not have won the War in 1940, but without him, the War most certainly would have been lost. Sir Martin Gilbert, historical consultant for the film and Churchill's official biographer, adds that had Churchill's warnings about Nazi Germany's racial policies towards Jews been heeded in the early 1930's, the Holocaust may never have occurred. The film examines why Winston Churchill's legacy continues to be relevant in the 21st Century and explores why his leadership remains inspirational to current day political leaders and diplomats.

The film is narrated by Academy Award Winner Sir Ben Kinsley, and written and directed by Richard Trank (I HAVE NEVER FORGOTTEN YOU: THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF SIMON WIESENTHAL).

It is films like this that remind me how little I retained in History class.... (My Dad wasn't even a twinkle in my Grandpa's eye yet when this was all going on). I have always known that Churchill was a fearless leader and had a brilliant mind, I didn't realize how much foresight he had into the evil that would eventually arise. I am sure there are more films that can be made about Churchill, pre-P.M. & post-P.M., so to choose this specific time in Churchill's history was most insightful and educational, in an engaging way.

while I do have a sense that this might be more of a "History Channel" program..there is no denying the compelling story that unfolded before us last night. Even knowing how WW2 ended, the movie captured perfectly the weight and emotion of those early days of the war and the devastation of the blitz. I'm a big Doris Kearns Goodwin fan...and Ben Kingsley set the perfect tone. Well done... two thumbs way up!

I will echo Jan's comment. That's what I'm talkin'about. An evening of thought provoking film. Educational. Engaging. Well edited. Moving. And enhanced with Trank's appearance. What a terrific evening.

Nothing says confidence more than a man with a cigar, especially if that man is Winston Churchill. Using wonderful archival footage and persuasive storytelling, Richard Trank easily convinces us that Churchill single-handedly turned the tide in WWII. Trank portrayed Churchill as the righteous thinker, the mature politician, and the consummate leader he was. Trank included many photos and videos featuring Churchill with a confident countenance. Especially powerful were the videos of a non-deterred Churchill leading groups of people surveying the damage of the bombings. “Be calm and carry on”, he said. And they were and they did.
