No real damage done, just not that great of a film. It felt low budget which doesn't mean it's doomed to be bad, in this case it just seemed flat and un-nurtured. It was a great cast of actors, however, I don't know if it's from watching too many SNL skits or spoofs on Christopher Walken but I feel like he's become a parody of himself.
Films like this just make me apprentice the other films this season all the more.

Perhaps it was the gravitas of Monday night's movie (127 Hours); perhaps it was the expectation of a COMEDY (which never made me laugh); perhaps it was my own mood...but whatever the reason, this movie was a disappointment. Granted, Christopher Walken is pretty amazing, as were the other actors. None of them could be faulted for tepid direction which turned this piece into just another "drive across the country and bond" movie, without much bonding. Hard not to mention Sharon Stone, who was charming as well as incredibly hot. Aside from that, I was glad we attended the early show and were able to get home in time to watch some real character development in our DVR'd "In Treatment."

It had a couple of entertaining moments.

"I feel like a polar bear." This is what Nat said after sleeping all night on cold, white tile in the vacant, for-sale house he sneaked into. If you like lines like this one, you liked $5 A DAY. If the film had anything else to offer, you loved it. The film had Sharon Stone.

What a waste of an evening. The story has been done too many times before. Only Sharon Stone's body was worth the effort. Direction was without feeling. For me there was no humor. Kept looking at my watch hoping and praying the film would come to an abrupt end. Not much doubt why this LITTLE movie went straight to video.
But, Andy, we love you anyway.
