LIFE AS WE KNOW IT

In the romantic comedy “Life as We Know It,” Holly Berenson (Katherine Heigl) is an up-and-coming caterer and Eric Messer (Josh Duhamel) is a promising network sports director. After a disastrous first date, the only thing they have in common is their dislike for each other and their love for their goddaughter, Sophie. But when they suddenly become all Sophie has in the world, Holly and Messer are forced to put their differences aside. Juggling career ambitions and competing social calendars, they’ll have to find some common ground while living under one roof.

“Life as We Know It” is directed by Greg Berlanti (TV’s “Brothers & Sisters” and “Everwood”) from a screenplay by first time feature writers Ian Deitchman & Kristin Rusk Robinson. The film stars Katherine Heigl (“The Ugly Truth,” “27 Dresses”), Josh Duhamel (the “Transformers” films), Josh Lucas (“Sweet Home Alabama”), Christina Hendricks (TV’s “Mad Men”), Hayes MacArthur (“The Game Plan”) and Jean Smart (TV’s “Samantha Who?” and “24”). A Warner Bros. Release, LIFE AS WE KNOW IT opens commercially in San Diego on October 8th.

PLEASE NOTE: This event takes place on a Wednesday!

Running Time: 112 Minutes; Rated PG-13 for sexual material, language and some drug content.

Nothing original here. Just a by-the-numbers, cheesy, TV-quality comedy. Heigl was much better in Knocked Up.

Maybe I'm getting soft-hearted or soft-headed, but I really liked this film. I found it smart, very funny, and surprisingly well-acted. The minor players were good, too; the social worker, babysitter, cab driver, technical booth director, etc.

Fun.

While predictible, I still found myself laughing outloud at parts.

And, I must admit, I really enjoyed the 'eye candy' -- handsome characters Eric Messer and Dr. Sam -- wow.

Fun.

Hi Andy... I actually give this a strong 3. ( I give the house a 5, 2-snaps and a covetous glance). One has to suspend belief in the premise that parents would leave their child to their single friends who they know don't really like each other. Once you move past that, I found this to be an enjoyable movie. I think they took some interesting turns and showed some real situational aspects: he drops the baby when the sling breaks, she has to pass on her restaurant expansion, the pick up in the grocery store, the drive the baby to sleep .. the impact of a baby on the social/work life, etc were all realistically portrayed by impossibly beautiful people. Some good laughs, some teary moments. Thanks..it was just what we needed!

Cute though not too sugary sweet (even though Holly was a baker :o), fairly predictable (given the incessant trailers) and apparently not that original due to a Made-for-TV movie Raising Waylon back in 2004....???? . It did have some interesting turn of events but ultimately the ending was a given. Was surprised that Jean Smart was so underused...maybe her parts ended up on the cutting room floor? I also think Katherine Heigl is falling into the Jennifer Aniston Syndrome and both are in desperate need of a hit.
