A note from the San Diego Jewish Film Festival: Once again the San Diego Jewish Film Festival is pleased have the Cinema Society of San Diego as one of its Community Partners. The festival looks forward to your attendance at our screenings. The San Diego Jewish Film Festival begins on February 8th with a private screening for underwriters, a reception and a presentation to Aviva Kempner who will receive the Outstanding Filmmaker Award. The festival opens to the public on February 9th and continues through February 19th. The twelve-day event will screen over 60 films from around the world celebrating life, human rights and freedom of expression. The program includes dramas, documentaries and a day devoted exclusively to shorts. In addition to San Diego premieres, the festival features local and international guest artists. This year's official opening night on February 9th at the Reading Cinemas Town Square, 7:00pm, will feature the San Diego premiere of On The Map, directed by Dani Menkin and featuring local celebrity Bill Walton. Mr. Menkin will be in attendance. Another highlight of the festival is the centerpiece film The People vs. Fritz Bauer, directed by Lars Kraume, an historical thriller that dramatizes the obstacles faced by the tenacious state attorney general Bauer in prosecuting the architects of Auschwitz. The official closing night film at the Reading Cinemas will be Body and Soul: An American Bridge directed by Robert Philipson, which focuses on the early performance history of the jazz standard Body and Soul and illustrates how this song smashed the barriers between African Americans and American Jews. Mr. Philipson will be in attendance. Screenings will be held at five locations throughout the San Diego area and north county. The festival program and tickets are now available online at the San Diego Jewish Film Festival website. The box office number is 858-362-1348. See you at the movies!
